After School Programs
Extended-day Programs
In addition to promoting physical and cultural development, extended-day programs also reinforce UNO’s attention to discipline it its schools. These programs are led by teachers and all students are required to participate in at least one. For more information on UNO’s extended-day Programs, please contact each individual school campus.
Clubs
Students have the opportunity to participate in clubs that are organized by each campus. The clubs reinforce the core-curriculum and range in topics from art to chess to yearbook.
Sports
To enhance student physical fitness and school spirit, the UNO Charter School Network sponsors a variety of sports teams that compete in the UCSN and other Chicago leagues throughout the year.
Nuestro Deporte
Nuestro Deporte is a soccer-based after-school program engaging “at-risk” Hispanic male youth in positive social, educational, and recreational activities during hours when students are less likely to be supervised and more likely to participate in high-risk behavior.
Integrating life skills and nutrition workshops for students and parents, academic tutoring and computer technology sessions, interaction with other youth from the same age group, and coaches as mentors through soccer practices and games, this program addresses a visible need within the Hispanic community to involve youth and their families in regularly scheduled positive opportunities for the development of students academically, physically, and socially.
